Brief history of education in Trussville, Alabama.
The First HTHS Yearbook made in 1940
Welcome to the Voices from the Schoolhouse wiki!
Welcome to the Voices from the Schoolhouse wiki. Students in my class created this wiki to share the stories of people who attended school in Trussville, AL. Our hope is that through this project a greater bond will form between the students of Hewitt Trussville Middle School and the community.
Hewitt-Trussville graduates from the first graduating class in 1940 to the first graduating class of Trussville City Schools in 2006.
We would like to thank the Community Outreach Partnership Center and Jefferson State Community College for awarding our district grant money in order to purchase a mobile recording studio. As a result of this grant we were able to purchase a mini DV camera, tripod, external microphone, headphones, Adobe Creative Studio, a digital still camera, digital voice recorder, wireless laptop, portable scanner, and a rolling cart.
The students created flyers that were distributed throughout the community to share the details of the project with citizens and to request inteviews in which they share their personal or family stories of attending school in Trussville. Area churches, the Senior Citizen Center, and The Chamber of Commerce were contacted as well. My students also wrote press releases to send to area newspapers. Students use all of the latest technology to document these stories. This wiki will consist of pictures, movies, and podcasts of these interviews.
Hope you enjoy!
My class would also like to thank April Chamberlain, Trussville City School Technology Integration Specialist, for writing this grant and spending hours helping us load the podcasts to the wiki. Without her guidance this wiki would not have been possible!
